More Visitors Choosing Abilene

Abilene is attracting more visitors who are visiting more attractions and spending more money, a report prepared for the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and Tourism has found.

In 2007, the city say 3.22 million visitors, compared to 2.81 million in 2005, according to the report.

Here are some highlights of the report about travel to Abilene:

Average party size – 1.9 people

Average length of stay was 1.4 days (overnight and day travel); 2.4 days (overnight only)

90% traveled by auto

68% traveled 250 miles or less (one-way)

Average spending - $100 per person per day

33% stayed in paid accommodations

Average age was 48 years

Average household income was $69,150

Tourism generates $350 million annually in Abilene, the report said.
